Biological activities

5-fluorouracil is a thymidylate synthase inhibitor. The IC50 of 5-fluorouracil is 24 µM against human colon carcinoma cell line.[1] 5-fluorouracil up-regulates FasR expression on melanoma cells.[2] The combination of 5-fluorouracil with selumetinib significantly decreases clonogenic survival compared with either agent alone.[3] In vitro, 5-FU time- and dose-dependently affects cell proliferation and survival. [4] In vivo, the combination of piplartine with 5-fluorouracil leads to a higher tumor growth inhibition.[5]
