Biological activities

Abreva is an inhibitor of lipid-enveloped viruses including herpes simplex. Abreva is a saturated fatty alcohol. Abreva is an antiviral drug.[1] Abreva inhibits viral replication by interfering with the early intracellular events surrounding viral entry into target cells.[1] Treatment of cells with docosanol also synergistically intensifies the inhibition of HSV production.[2]
