Biological activities

Aloprim is an inhibitor of xanthine oxidase. The IC50 of aloprim is 240 nM against xanthine oxidase.[1] In addition, aloprim inhibits xanthine oxidase with a Ki of 7 µM.[2] Aloprim is a sodium of allopurinol which is a purine analog. Aloprim is used primarily to treat hyperuricemia. Aloprim serves on purine catabolism without disrupting the biosynthesis of purines. Aloprim decreases the production of uric acid by preventing the biochemical reactions immediately preceding its formation.
