Biological activities

Aminophylline is a bronchodilator. Aminophylline is a nonselective adenosine receptor antagonist and phosphodiesterase inhibitor capable of reversing ischemia-induced bradyasystole.[1] Aminophylline also acts by raising the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration, thereby influencing the PTE-stimulated Ca2+ transport mechanism.[2] Aminophylline inhibits the contractions induced in rat isolated aorta by high K and noradrenaline (NA) as well as the transient contraction induced by NA in Ca2+-free media and suppresses the spontaneous myogenic activity in portal vein segments.[3] Aminophylline preferentially inhibits chloroethylclonidine-insensitive alpha-adrenoceptor-mediated contractions in rat aorta.[4] In the liver of the rat, aminophylline administration causes an increase in the cyclic AMP level and an elevation in the activity of cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase.[5]

Protocols

In vivo: Aminophylline is dissolved in distilled water.[5]
