Biological activities

Apoptosis Activator 2 is a cell-permeable indoledione compound. It promotes the oligomerization of Apaf-1 into the mature apoptosome to activate caspases in a cytochrome c-dependent manner and induces apoptosis in tumor cells [1]. It has weak or no effect on normal cell lines or those defective/deficient in Apaf-1, caspase-9 or caspase-3 activity (IC50 > 40 ?M). Its cytotoxicity is selective towards tumor cells (IC50 < 10 ?M for Jurkat, Molt-4, and CCRF-CEM) [2,3].
