Biological activities

Biperiden hydrochloride is an antiparkinsonian agent of the anticholinergic type. Biperiden hydrochloride is used for the adjunctive treatment of all forms of Parkinson's disease. Biperiden hydrochloride inhibits N-Methyl-D-aspartate-(NMDA-) evoked [3H]acetylcholine release with a functional Ki value of 8.8 µM in rabbit caudate nucleus slices.[1] Biperiden hydrochloride antagonizes muscarinic receptor (mAChR M) subtypes mAChR M1, mAChR M4, mAChR M3, mAChR M2 and mAChR M5 receptors with Ki values of 0.48, 2.4, 3.9, 6.3 and 6.3 nM, respectively.[2] Biperiden hydrochloride treatment (4 mg) results in 10-45% mAchR occupancy in the frontal cortex.[3]

Protocols

In vivo: Biperiden hydrochloride is dissolved in distilled water.[4]
