Biological activities

Cataflam is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Cataflam works by reducing substances that cause pain inflammation. Cataflam is a potassium salt of diclofenac which is a non-selective COX inhibitor. The IC50 of diclofenac is 0.19 µM against COX-2. In contrast, diclofenac inhibits COX-1 with an IC50 of 0.26 µM.[1] Dclofenac causes a rare but potentially fatal hepatotoxicity. Diclofenac undergoes biotransformation to reactive metabolites in rats.[2] Diclofenac prevents formalin-induced flinching behavior.[1]
