Biological activities

Cefditoren-pivoxil is a prodrug of cefditoren. Cefditoren pivoxil is rapidly hydrolysed by intestinal esterases to the microbiologically active cephalosporin cefditoren. Cefditoren is a third-generation cephalosporin. Cefditoren has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including common respiratory and skin pathogens.[1] Cefditoren possesses good activity against both β-lactamase-producing Haemophilus injluenzae with a MIC90 ranging from 0.39 to 2.0 µg/mL. Across all pathogens, the MIC90 for cefditoren against H influenza, H parainjluenzae, M catarrhalis, S pneumonia,S aureus and S pyogenes are 0.03, 0.12, 0.50, 0.50, 1.0 and 0.015 µg/mL, respectively. [2] Cefditoren has potential therapeutic efficacy against respiratory tract infection due to BLNAR in mice. [3]
