Biological activities

Cetirizine diHC1 is a second-generation histamine H1 receptor antagonist, with an IC50 of 0.65 µM. Cetirizine diHC1 is effective and well tolerated for the treatment of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR), perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU). Cetirizine diHC1 effectively reduces wheal and flare responses to various inflammatory mediators, including platelet activating factor. Cetirizine diHC1 can also reduce the expression of adhesion molecules associated with eosinophil migration and adhesion of eosinophils to epithelial cells in vitro.[1] Cetirizine diHC1 induces a significant reduction both in inflammatory cell migration and PGD-2 production during the cutaneous late phase reaction.[2] Cetirizine diHC1 is highly efficacious and long-acting nonsedating in the treatment of allergic disorders of the respiratory tract, skin, and eyes. [3]
