Biological activities

Colchicine is a microtubule polymerization inhibitor. Colchicine blocks the growth of the MCF-7 cells with an IC50 of 13 nM. [1] Colchicine is a medication that treats gout. Colchicine is a toxic natural product and secondary metabolite, originally extracted from plants of the genus colchicum. Colchicine inhibits secretion of albumin in vivo. Colchicine, administered intravenously, acts within 2 minutes and its inhibitory effect lasts for at least 3 hours. [2]

In vivo: Colchicine is dissolved in a saline solution.[2]
