Chemical Structure

Biological activities

Daidzein is a major isoflavone in soybean foods and is antioxidant and antiestrogen. Daidzein inhibits the production of inositol phosphates of 3T3 cell with an IC50 of 8 µM. [1] Daidzein inhibits transactivation of rat ERα and ERβ in HepG2 human hepatoma cells with EC50 of 390 and 87 nM. [2] Daidzein inhibits the growth of both estrogen receptor-positive (MCF-7) and negative (MDA-468) human breast cancer cell lines with IC50 of 24 and 79 µM, respectively. [3] Daidzein is able to relax rat mesenteric arteries endothelium-independently in vitro. Daidzein inhibits calcium uptake via L-type calcium channels at least in rat pituarity cells. [4] Daidzein prevents the ovariectomy-induced BMD reduction at both the cancellous and cortical sites by suppressing the bone turnover increase. Daidzein consumption also results in the preservation of cancellous bone area in the distal femur metaphysis. [5]

Protocols

Daidzein is dissolved in ethanol. [4]
