Biological activities

Dutasteride is a dual 5-? reductase inhibitor that inhibits conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) ^[1]. It is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia. Dutasteride belongs to a class of drugs called 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, which block the action of the 5-alpha-reductase enzymes that convert testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Dutasteride inhibits both 5aR1 and 5aR2 to a similar extent (IC50 6nmol/l and 7nmol/l, respectively). ^[2] In vivo, it can be used by 0.05-2.5mg/day in adults. ^[3]
