Biological activities

Fluvastatin sodium is a new and potent inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase that is widely used as a cholesterol-lowering drug. Fluvastatin sodium can reduce the LDL level in plasma and competitively inhibit cytochrome P-450TP CYP2C9 in vitro. Fluvastatin sodium inhibits lipid peroxidation in rat liver microsomes with an IC50 of 11.8 µM.[1] Fluvastatin sodium is metabolized by human liver microsomes to 5-hy-droxy-, 6-hydroxy-, and N-deisopropyl-fluvastatin. Fluvastatin sodium and its metabolites have a protective effect on apoB and a -tocopherol. Fluvastatin sodium inhibits the degradation of apoB in Human Plasma with an IC50 of 405 µM.[2] In addition, fluvastatin sodium inhibits the proliferation of smooth muscle cells in vitro with an IC50 of 2.2 mM. Fluvastatin sodium inhibits intimal thickening after catheterization-induced injury through percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).[3]

Protocols

Fluvastatin sodium is dissolved in 25 mM Tris閳ユ弻Cl buffer (pH 7.4). [1]
