Biological activities

Gadodiamide is a gadolinium-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent, used in MR imaging procedures to assist in the visualization of blood vessels. Gadodiamide is frequently injected i.v. into MRI to enhance contrast. In vitro, gadodiamide is not harmful on stimulated human neutrophils viability.[1] The half-life of gadodiamide in rats, rabbits, and monkeys is 18, 38, and 75 minutes, respectively. Gadodiamide is excreted rapidly, primarily through the kidneys. In rats, 94% of the administered dose is excreted in the urine within the first 24 hours after administration. Gadodiamide injection has a remarkably low acute lethal toxicit.[2] In both mice (0.48 mmol/kg) and rats (0.1 mmol/kg) at 7 and 14 days after gadolinium-153 (153Gd)-labeled gadodiamide administration, gadodiamide dissociates in vivo resulting in more 153Gd present in bone and liver at the longer residence times than in the subjects injected with gadoteridol and gadoterate.[3]

Protocols

In vivo: Gadodiamide is dissolved in sterile water.[4]
