Chemical Structure

Biological activities

Ginkgolide B is the most potent platelet-activating factor (PAF) antagonist of the ginkgo extracts with an IC50 of 0.6 mM.[1] Ginkgolides B is diterpene trilactone and widely used in the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate dementia. Ginkgolide B inhibits the direct action of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) with a Ki of 12.7 µM. [2] Ginkgolide B (0.01-10 µM) inhibits glycine-induced currents of homo-oligomeric a1, a2 and a3 GlyRs, with IC50 of 0.61, 3.68 and 1.82 µM, respectively. Ginkgolide B is a potent blocker of β subunit containing GlyR channels and hence can be used to discriminate homo- from hetero-oligomeric GlyRs. [3] In a culture model of neuronal apoptosis induced by AAPH, addition of ginkgolide B in vitro leads to increases in cell viability and decreases in the number of hippocampal cells undergoing AAPH-induced apoptosis. [4]

Protocols

Ginkgolides B is dissolved in 100 mM DMSO as stock solution. [2]
