Biological activities

Heparin sodium is a highly sulfated glycosaminoglycan. Heparin sodium is widely used as an anticoagulant. Heparin sodium is a sodium salt of heparin. Heparin inhibits aberrant vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation in animal models and in cell culture. Heparin rapidly and selectively regulates protein tyrosine phosphorylation in vascular smooth muscle cells. [1] Heparin inhibits CaM kinase II phosphorylation by activating protein phosphatases 1 and 2A.[2] Heparin has an IC50 of 0.5 U/mL with only 58% inhibition at 5 U/mL against fibrin-bound thrombin.[3] Heparin improves LA+ sera-induced apoptosis and facilitates trophoblast invasion.[4] Low-dose low molecular heparin inhibits T lymphocyte-mediated autoimmune disease and allograft reactions in mice in vivo and in vitro.[5] In addition, heparin is a competitive inhibitor of inositol triphosphate receptors. Heparin inhibits airway anaphylaxis in vivo. Heparin prevents immunologically induced tracheal smooth muscle contraction. [6]

Protocols

In vivo: Heparin is dissolved in 10 µL DMSO.[6]
