Biological activities

Iodixanol is a contrast agent. Iodixanol is the only iso-osmolar contrast agent, with an osmolality of 290 mOsm/kg H2O, the same as blood. Iodixanol is slightly less nephrotoxic than iohexol.[1] Iodixanol is isosmotic and isotonic with blood and is found to be superior to sucrose and NaBr gradients in preserving the integrity of host lipoprotein-virus complexes.[2] The aqueous solutions of iodixanol are iso-osmotic up to a density of 1.32 g/mL. Iodixanol is capable of forming self-generating gradients in 1 to 3 hours. Iodixanol has a very low toxicity toward biological material.[3]
