Biological activities

Isotretinoin is a medication used mostly for cystic acne. Isotretinoin is also a chemotherapy treatment used in brain, pancreatic and other cancers. Treatment of GT1-7 hypothalamic cells with 10µMisotretinoin for 48 hours decreases cell growth to 45.6% of control.Isotretinoindoes not increase superoxide anion production.^[1]Isotretinoin enhances expression of RARbeta and PPARgamma mRNA. Isotretinoin decreases expression of RARalpha.^[2]In addition, isotretinoininjectionsamplified depression-related behaviors in mice.^[3]
