Biological activities

Megestrol acetate is a synthetic progesterone. In vitro, it inhibits the growth of HepG2 cells in dose- and time-dependent manners with an IC50 of 260 ?M. It also has been used as an antineoplastic agent in the treatment of breast, endometrial, and prostate cancers [1]. Megestrol acetate can improve appetite and increase weight in cancer-associated cachexia [2].
