Biological activities

Mesnex is a novel renoprotective antioxidant.^[1] Mesnex is an organosulfur compound. Mesnex is used as an adjuvant in the treatment of cancer. Mesnex improves function of the ischaemic kidney. Mesnex scavenges ROS generated at the onset of reperfusion, thus diminishing reperfusion injury and organ damage.^[1] Mesnex decreases the urotoxieity by scavenging the toxic metabolite acrolein. Mesnex clearly prevents the toxic properties of acrolein.^[2] In vitro, mesnex liberates 36.5% of protein-bound homocysteine in half an hour.^[3] Mesnex protects against the cytotoxicity of cisplatin in Chinese hamster cells. Intravenous mesnex causes a rapid decrease in plasma total homocysteine levels during hemodialysis.^[3]
