Biological activities

Naproxen sodium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Naproxen sodium is a COX-1 and COX-2 non-specific inhibitor. Naproxen is a nonsteroidal agent shows anti-inflammatory, analgestic and antipyretic properties. Naproxen sodium shows more rapid absorption throughout the gastrointestinal tract, and the peak plasma levels are attained within 1-2 hours. Single 200 to 600 mg doses of naproxen sodium is shown to be as effective as single standard doses of aspirin or other standard analgesics.^[1] Naproxen sodium ,at a dose of 12.5 mg/day in the drinking water, can decrease rabbit bone ingrowth significantly. Naproxen sodium decreases the number of CD51 positive osteoclast-like cells per section compared with drinking water alone. ^[2] Naproxen sodium has quick absorption and short half-life, and is administered orally 2-3 times a day.^[3] In addition, the suppression of platelet COX-1 activity by naproxen sodium can recover in a time- and dose-dependent manner.^[4]
