Biological activities

Naratriptan is a novel 5HT1B and 5HT1D receptors agonist with pKi values of 8.7 and 8.3, respectively. Naratriptan causes contractions of dog isolated basilar and middle cerebral artery with EC50 values of 0.11 and 0.07 nM, respectively. Naratriptan also causes small contractions of human isolated coronary arteries with an EC50 value of 0.17 nM.[1] Naratriptan can prevent the release of sensory peptides. Naratriptan can inhibit painful neurogenic vasodilatation of intracranial blood vessels. At the first order synapse of the trigeminal sensory system, naratriptan can selectively suppress neurotransmission from sensory fibers from dural and vascular tissue.[2] In animal model, naratriptan (30mg/kg) can inhibit lacrimal duct/gland flow by 29%.[3]

Protocols

In vivo: Naratriptan is dissolved in 40% polyethyleneglycol 300 in sterile saline (0.9%). [4]
