Chemical Structure

Biological activities

Rocuronium bromide is a bromide salt of rocuronium. Rocuronium is a nondepolarizing muscle relaxant. [1] Rocuronium can competitively inhibit the activation of ε- nAChR and γ-nAChR by Ach. The IC50 of rocuronium for ε-nAChR and γ-nAChR is 169.2 and 8.6 µM, respectively. [2] Rocuronium has a rapid onset of activity and may be suitable as a component of a rapid-sequence induction of anesthesia.[1] The IC50 of rocuronium in combination with vecuronium is 0.7 µM for ε-nAChR and 36.3 µM for γ-nAChR, respectively. [2] Rocuronium reduces the indirectly elicited twitch tensions in normal diaphragm with an IC50 of 9.84 µM. Subsequent application of rocuronium (0.1 µM) decreases the magnitude of increased twitch tensions to the control level.[3] In addition, rocuronium causes less direct histamine release than the benzylisoquinolinium-derived NMBDs, such as atracurium and mivacurium. [4] Rocuronium blocks neuromuscular transmission with a non- depolarizing pattern in the RC of CAPs induced from the gastrocnemius muscle in cats. [5]

Protocols

Rocuronium is dissolved to 1 mM in modified Krebs solution. [3]
