Biological activities

Rufinamide is a sodium channels inhibitor. Oral administration of rufinamide suppresses pentylenetetrazol-induced seizures in mice, with an ED50 of 45.8 mg/kg, but not rats. Rufinamide is active against MES-induced tonic seizures in mice and rats with ED50 23.9 and 6.1 mg/kg, respectively. Intraperitoneal rufinamide prevents pentylenetetrazol-, bicuculline-, and picrotoxin-induced clonus in mice with ED50 54.0, 50.5, and 76.3 mg/kg, respectively. In addition, rufinamide is partially effective in the mouse strychnine test.[1]
