Biological activities

Tygacil is a glycylcycline antibiotic. The minimal IC50 of tygacil is 116 nM against P. falciparum isolates.^[1] Tygacil binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria and thereby preventing entry of Aminoacyl-tRNA into the A site of the ribosome during prokaryotic translation. Tygacil reveals activity against a wide spectrum of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, including strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci, penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecium, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia.^[2] The MIC90 of tigecycline is 0.12 µg/mL. Tigecycline has broad-spectrum activity. ^[3]
